What if we could respond inclusively and effectively to planetary-scale problems?

At Foundations Earth, we nurture the capacities and capabilities needed for a new kind of planetary-scale governance.

  • As violent and unsustainable systems collapse, we seek to build the foundations for a new kind of planetary-scale governance - the multiple systems of governance that, when weaved together, can respond inclusively and effectively to planetary-scale problems.

We see this as a continuous and collective process of learning and finding coherence among the people, places and technologies needed for new systems to emerge; and through which we embrace the deep personal, collective and institutional transformations required, in service to the people and places most affected.

  • A world of shared abundance, in which our relationships with each other and the rest of the living world are guided by mutual care.

FAQs

  • Planetary-scale governance is what we call multiple forms of governance that, when weaved together from the local to the planetary, can respond inclusively and effectively to planetary-scale problems.

We do not envision this as some centralised global governance, or a reformed multilateral nation-state system - neither of which can respond inclusively and effectively.

Planetary-scale governance is emergent - it is what we seek to co-create with all who feel drawn to such work.

  • We work with place-based civil society groups, innovators, possibility-oriented storytellers, philanthropic funders and ecosystem weavers.

  • This work supports, convenes, facilitates, amplifies and weaves alternatives to violent and unsustainable systems.

By being embedded in a wider ecology of change, we listen deeply to the groups we work with and the people and places most affected.

Ultimately, we measure impact based on the inclusiveness and effectiveness of responses to planetary-scale problems. However, in a complex and non-linear environment, such impact is often hard to measure - we use action-learning techniques, decentralised structures and experienced-led teams to help us sense where impact is really being felt.
